Three Millennials Impacting the Natural Hair Movement

Millennials are the future of the natural hair movement.

What is a millennial?

Millennials are the generation that were born after the year 1980 and before 2000, the turn of the century and the beginning of the new millennium. Although there are many views about millennials, one has to wonder when talking about the natural hair movement, what has the millennial done to impact it? What are millennials doing now to impact the movement?

Millennials although, they do not wear their label visibly, are visible in the natural hair movement. As of late, millennials are not only involved in product development catering to the natural hair community, but some own their own natural hair companies. Other naturals are supporting by vlogging and blogging. One example of a millennial in the natural hair community is Ijeoma, head blogger of natural hair blog, KlassyKinks. Ijeoma big chopped in 2010 and KlassyKinks was founded in 2013. Ijeoma is currently pursuing her PhD. Another example of a millennial impacting the natural hair movement is Rochelle Campbell, founder and owner of national hair care company, Alikay Naturals. Campbell who is also known as blackonyx77, on YouTube created her hair care line beginning in 2008. In 2012, the company became formal, they now create over 60 products dealing in hair, skin and body, with a focus in natural ingredients.

One example of a millennial helping to head the social media effort of the natural hair movement is Constance Cash. Cash, is the founder of #TeamNatural, a natural hair Instagram page that boast 307 thousand followers. She is also the founder and editor of the natural hair website IAmTeamNatural. Through her organization, Cash has created various natural hair events that bring natural hair enthusiasts together, giving knowledge and entertaining patrons all at the same time. These are just a few of the millennials that are currently making a splash in the natural hair movement. Creating content, products and community in the natural hair movement, these women are impacting their generation through entrepreneurial activities as well as in business.
